Pro Tools 12

Pro Tools 12

Pro Tools 12Avid announced Pro Tools 12 and Pro Tools First at NAMM last week.

The great news is anyone who purchases Pro Tools 11 will receive a free upgrade to 12!  In fact, not only will you receive a free upgrade to Pro Tools 12, but also one year of free support and free upgrades.  One the most exciting features in Pro Tools 12 is the new Cloud Collaboration tools.

Already have Pro Tools and want 12 as soon as it is available?  If you don't qualify for a free upgrade, purchase the Annual Upgrade & Support contract, and not only will you get a free upgrade to Pro Tools 12, but you will also receive any other upgrades and free support for a year!
Pro Tools First is a free version of Pro Tools to get you started and will be available in the coming weeks.  When compared to Pro Tools 12, Pro Tools First only allows the simultaneous recording of four tracks, and you can only use a maximum of 16 tracks at a time.  There is no support for video, which may not be a big deal, but you can also only work with three projects at once, which will be the biggest disadvantage with Pro Tools First compared to Pro Tools 12.

For a free product, Pro Tools First has a surprising amount of content, include Xpand!2 and 20 effects.  However, if you are a student or teacher, it may be worth paying the extra for the full Pro Tools 12 since you can get an awesome price on Pro Tools 12 academic.  If you are just getting started, Avid has a great way for you to try Pro Tools to see if it will meet your needs.
