Media Composer 8 Now Available

Media Composer 8
StudioConnectAlong with a slew of new features in their popular video editing software, Avid has added a number of different licensing options including a perpetual license, a subscription model and floating licenses for schools.  Media Composer 8 now includes a free year of support and upgrades!

The Perpetual License for students, teachers or schools allows you to buy Media Composer 8 for a one time price of around $300.  You receive a full year of free upgrades and support from Avid, and as long as you buy an annual support contract from us before your 12 months of free support expires, you will continue to receive free upgrades and support.  If you don't purchase the support contract you can still use the software, but you won't receive any future upgrades or support.

The Subscription license gives you Media Composer 8 along with free support and updates for an entire year.  It includes some additional software not included in the Perpetual License, including the Symphony Option, NewBlue Titler Pro 2, Sorenson Squeeze Lite, and Boris Continuum Complete Lite.  Subscription licenses are available for both students and teachers and need to be renewed through us at the end of the year if you wish to continue using the software.

Floating Licenses give schools the ability to make Media Composer available on all computers on campus by allowing a specific number of licenses to be "signed out."

If you purchase the Perpetual License but still want to get access to NewBlue Titler Pro 2, Izotope Insight and Sorenson Squeeze, then you can purchase the Media Composer Production Pack Academic. Should you also want the Symphony Option you can order that at our greatly reduced student & teacher price!

Presonus QMix - wireless Aux-Mix control for your StudioLive!

The Presonus StudioLive series has been very popular, and with good reason.  Their powerful digital mixer solutions offer an incredible value, and serve many purposes, including a live mixer, audio interface and more.  They include a great software package and can be remotely controlled via an iPad.

Now, the StudioLive is even more versatile with the addition of the free QMix app.  Up to ten musicians can simultaneously control their StudioLive™ monitor (aux) mixes using an iPhone® or iPod touch®. Six different mixes with a 16.4.2. Ten individual mixes with a 24.4.2. Four mixes with a StudioLive 16.0.2.

QMix works a lot like SL Remote: One or more iPhones network wirelessly with a Mac® or PC, enabling QMix to remote-control Virtual StudioLive, which in turn controls one or more FireWire-connected StudioLive™ mixers. When each iPhone connects to the new network, its copy of QMix will discover all StudioLive mixers on the network. In this way, each musician can quickly and easily create an aux mix that includes all mixer channels.

Do the math: Personal monitor-mixing systems run between $200 and $700 per person and require beau coups connections. Even if you don’t own an iPhone, a used 3G or 4G iPod touch can run you as little as $125. QMix on an iPhone or iPod touch automatically syncs with the monitor (aux) channels on your StudioLive mixer via Universal Control 1.5.3. And it’s wireless. And you can play “Angry Birds” on it!

M-Audio Carbon Series Studio Monitors

M-Audio Carbon Series M-Audio's Carbon BX5, Carbon BX6 and Carbon BX8 studio monitors helps you track, monitor, and mix with confidence by providing accurate sound and dynamic acoustic control. Equipped with a woven Kevlar low-frequency driver and natural silk dome tweeters, the BX Carbon series delivers a flat frequency response, enhanced stereo imaging, and increased clarity for authentic, professional mixing. The bi-amplified class A/B amplification means high power with less noise and ensures that your monitoring setup can handle today's modern music with ease. With the BX Carbon series, your music is ready for any listening environment.

Sharing the same feature set, the Carbon series has three models to choose from:
Mixing doesn’t occur in a vacuum. Your listening environment influences your mixing decisions and, ultimately, the sound of your music. The Carbon's Acoustic Space Control, a series of calibration tools, helps provide optimal acoustic conditions for tracking, mixing, and monitoring anywhere. Adapt the Carbon to any mixing environment—from bedrooms to basements to professional studios without compromising frequency detail or stereo image. The result is a flexible monitoring setup for the most demanding mixing environments.

The tweeter’s waveguide has been enhanced to provide an expansive sweet spot and superior stereo imaging. A wider mix position gives you professional monitoring for any caliber studio. Pinhole-mounted LED placement cues help locate and light up the sweet spot to ensure a speaker placement that reliably translates stereo information and frequencies. When the LEDs turn bright, you know you’re dead center and ready to start mixing your sessions or laying down tracks with the Carbon.

Prodipe Mics
Lanen RSL Ribbon Stereo MicProdipe is well known for affordable, but high quality microphones.  We've added their popular Lanen RSL Ribbon Stereo Mic and the "Salmieri" Drum Mic Pack to our line-up of mics.

The Claude Salmieri drum mic pack was designed to record your playing with as much accuracy as possible.

The pack consists of 8 microphones:
- x1 NEXT GENERATION dynamic uni-directional bass drum mic that goes even further down into the bass notes for optimum recording and restitution.
- x3 dynamic, unidirectional and ultra-versatile mics for toms – you can also use them with other percussion instruments such as congas, bongos, etc.
- x1 dynamic uni-directional mic for the snare drum to accurately transcribe what is essential in playing snare drums - attack and finesse.
- x3 microphones PROA1 overheads (static condenser mics) perfectly adapted to capture the different moods of drums and percussion instruments, but also ideal for the Charleston drum. You can also use them with any acoustic instrument.

The ST-8 set is supplied in a durable carrying case and includes 3 SHIELDS and 3 HOLDER MOUNTS to use with the overheads.

The Lanen RSL Ribbon Stereo Mic boasts a modern design and exceptional quality at an affordable price. It is perfect for smaller studios, home studio users and musicians.

Using the famous microphones of the 60s as starting point, Prodipe has created a new generation of ultra-tough ribbon mics that are capable of:
- Stereo and simultaneous recordings that let you pick up the mood of the room from behind and almost completely isolate any sources that are on either side of the mic.
- The speed of response obtained from the lightweight nature of a ribbon that comprises 2.8 micron width aluminium.
- A respect for the timbre of each instrument and a very natural reproduction of their respective sounds.
- An ability to manage very high sound levels (for example, guitar amplifier at full blast).
- High-pitched sounds that are never aggressive (brass, metal percussion), even if the pickup is nearby.
- Directivity in 8 so you can capture the atmosphere of the room from behind and almost completely isolate any sources that are on either side of the mic.
