IXZ AUDIO INTERFACE FOR IPHONE, IPOD, IPAD

If you want to record into your iPad, the AudioFace II or AudioLink II are great ways to connect to your iPad using the Apple Camera connection kit.

However, if you want something super small that can also record on your iPhone or iPod touch, checkout the new pocket-sized iXZ from Tascam. Plug in a microphone, guitar or bass to interact with the latest guitar amp, sampling, recording and DJ apps. The iXZ even supplies phantom power for condenser microphones. An input setting sets the gain and there’s a headphone output to monitor from your iOS device. To turn an iPhone into a portable practice, songwriting or live recording rig, it’s tough to beat the TASCAM iXZ.

The iXZ addresses the problem of providing reliable phantom power by accepting 2 AA batteries which should last for around 15 hours.

M-Audio FastTrack C400 and Fast Track C600

M-Audio has updated their popular Fast Track USB Audio Interface series with two new products – the Fast Track C400 and Fast Track C600. Both include Pro Tools SE so you can get started recording right away. You can also get the full power of Pro Tools by purchasing the Fast Track C400 with Pro Tools MP9 or the Fast Track C600 with Pro Tools MP9.

The next-generation designs combine an audio interface with tactile controls and built-in monitor management system, providing an integrated creative workflow.

The Fast Track C400 is a 4x6 Recording Interface with DSP and the Fast Track C600 is a 6x8 Recording Interface with DSP. Both units have 24-bit/96 kHz audio fidelity, top-panel controls, an assignable multi button, near-zero latency monitor mixer with built-in reverb, delay effects and a built-in monitor management system.

The assignable multi-button is a great idea as you can perform critical tasks without touching a mouse. For example, press the Multi button once to start recording, a second time to stop and return to where you started, and a third time to capture another take. Imagine the possibilities of programming any sequence of up to eight steps—for any software program that supports ASCII key commands—or use the convenient preset workflows with Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic, Live, and Reason.

Another feature that pushes these new Fast Track units into the “pro” category is the addition of a monitor management system. If you've been looking for an easy way to A/B your mixes on multiple sets of speakers, Fast Track C400 is the answer. There's no need to purchase additional hardware—the built-in monitor management system makes it easy to audition your mixes on up to two sets of studio monitors (or one set of monitors and a subwoofer).

Reason 6 Essentials - everything you need from Reason, but for less

Reason 6 is hugely popular, especially now that audio recording is integrated into the main program. If you could only own one tool for music production, Reason would be the one to get. However, if you don’t want to spend the money on the full version of Reason 6, Propellerheads has released a very capable, but less expensive version called Reason Essentials.

Reason Essentials packs in all the recording, editing, effects, instruments and mixing tools you need to sound great. With its generous sound bank and familiar creative flow, it’s the software that lets you focus on the music and finish that song. Reason Essentials, just like its bigger brother Reason, puts making music in focus. From concept to completion, it comes with all the essential tools for turning good ideas into great songs.

Reason 6 Now Available!

The long awaited Reason 6 is now available! The biggest new feature, (the one everyone has requested since Version 1) is the integration of audio recording. With Reason 6, all of the features found in Record are now integrated into Reason.

Combining all the features from Record, version 6 adds audio recording and editing into Reason, along with Propellerhead's acclaimed mixing console with masterfully modeled EQ and dynamics on every channel, multiple parallel racks, all the effects you know and love plus new ones to fall in love with, and much more of what you've always wanted in Reason.

Of course, there are lots of new devices to play with, including the Pulveriser, the Echo, the Alligator (very cool pattern based gate effect), the Neptune for pitch correction (yay!) and time stretch and audio transpose.

Already have Reason? Check out the following upgrades:
