MusicTime & Encore from GVox - back in action!

I had a chance to speak with GVox at the NAMM show last week and was very impressed with their commitment and passion for easy to use notation software.  They've been releasing updates over the past few years and with their past financial problems well behind them, we expect even more great things to come.

Notation Software Tech Support Policies - getting help when you need it

Talking about tech support can be a dangerous topic, as everyone has had negative experiences when trying to get help with software they've purchased.

MusicPad Pro Plus $649 clearance - one left!

Update: sold out!

FreeHand has decided to discontinue their MusicPad Pro Plus and instead release their software so that you can run it on a laptop.  However, if you've ever tried using your laptop on stage or for rehearsals, you'll probably agree that it is fraught with problems.  (How do you secure your laptop to your stand?  How do you make sure it doesn't crash during the performance?  You do you make sure the screen is viewable from all angles when you move around?)

Fortunately, we have one MusicPad Pro Plus left in stock and we've slashed the price to $649.99 so you can still take advantage of all of the benefits of a stand alone system that won't crash, is easily viewable, and allows you to take your finger or a stylus and mark up your music - just like regular sheet music.

iPads for musicians - viewing sheet music

Everywhere I turned at the NAMM show last week, someone was demonstrating music hardware or an app for the iPad.  It seems that the iPad has become an essential tool for musicians and the music industry is catching on by releasing innovative music tools for the iPad.

Viewing sheet music on the iPad seems to be more and more popular these days, and there are some great tools for this.  For example, we just started carrying the PageFlip Cicada which is a two pedal bluetooth page turner that will work with any bluetooth compatible hardware - including the iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone or your laptop or desktop computer.

Tascam's new US-200, US-600 and DP-03

Tascam is launching two new USB 2.0 audio and MIDI interfaces - the US-200 and the US-600.  Designed to be lightweight and portable, they offer 24/96 recording, direct monitoring, XLR inputs with phantom power, and Cubase LE 5 so you can get started right away.

They have also updated the popular DP-02 Portastudio to the new DP-03.

Canadian Customers - important warranty/service info on Tascam and Roland products

With the Canadian dollar at or above par, it can be tempting to purchase from US dealers.  Keep in mind that the cost in the shopping cart isn't the total price.

Control your Presonus Studio Live from your iPad

Following the popular trend, Presonus announced the release of an iPad app to control their StudioLive 16.4.2 and StudioLive 24.4.2 digital mixers.  The App is free, and the StudioLive are feature packed and very affordable - one of the few affordable options for anyone who wants the power of a digital mixer without the high price.

Avid news from NAMM - virtual analog synth, Torq 2 and more mBox options

The new M-Audio Venom synthesizer is an emulation of classic analog synthesis that combines the warm sound and character of vintage keyboards with the intuitive control and workflow advantages of modern digital processing to provide cutting-edge sound options to musicians of all skill levels.  It offers extensive sound design capabilities, a full-sized keyboard and ergonomic design, Vyzex Venom software editor, and a built-in USB audio/MIDI interface.  It should be available very soon and we expect to have it up on our website for ordering next week.

M-Audio also updated Torq to Version 2 and it should be available at the beginning of February, although we hope to have it up on the website next week so and you can pre-order Torq 2.0 now.

As expected, Avid is eventually updating their mBox series to include Pro Tools 9 at a higher price than the current versions that ship with Pro Tools 8 LE.  They will also be selling the mBox hardware without Pro Tools, should you want to use Cubase or Sonar instead.  These changes won't be happening until the end of March, so you still can take advantage of the lower price on the bundles with Pro Tools 8 LE, and then buy an upgrade to Pro Tools 9 from LE.

Cubase 6 - coming later this month

Steinberg announced at NAMM that Cubase 6 and Cubase Studio Artist  6 will be shipping later this month.  New features include new drum editing features, a lane track for multi-take comping, track edit groups, and a new set of features they are calling VST Expression.  They also added some guitar amp simulators, and now include two hours of video tutorials.  You can pre-order Cubase 6 now for shipping later this month - we won't charge your credit card until it actually ships.  We expect it to be a strong seller, so ordering now ensures you will be one of the first to receive it when it does become available.
