The Gig Easy iPad products are hugely popular. They are well made, easy to use and securely mount your iPad on a mic stand or music stand. However, aside from providing the iPad, you also have to provide the mic stand or music stand.

To remedy that, Gig Easy has released two mic stands that are perfect for use with their iPad mounting kits!

The Gig Easy Mic Stand has "One Hand Adjustment" and the height adjustment ranges from 38" to 64" providing the ideal height for virtually all applications.

The “Concertino” version is ideal for seated musicians and has a height adjustment range from 18" to 30".

The portability of these stands is unbeatable. Instead of using a heavy base, it utilizes a collapsible tripod base for stability. Weighing less than 2.7 lbs., it can be easily transported and stored, and features a standard size 5/8-27 threaded adapter.

The height adjustment can be easily made with just one hand. You can use these as a traditional mic stand, or simply attach the GigEasy Mic Stand Mount Kit or Mic Stand Mount Extension Arm Kit for a quick and easy conversion to an iPad music stand!

Tascam IM2 Microphone for iPhone, iPod and iPad!

Looking for an easy way to get high quality recordings into your Apple iOS device?  TASCAM's iM2 turns the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch into a high-quality stereo recorder. A pair of condenser microphones - the same high quality as TASCAM's best-selling DR-series recorders - plugs into the dock connector of your Apple device.

The microphones are adjustable over 180 degrees for the best sound placement. The uni-directional elements are arranged in an AB pattern for detailed stereo imaging while capturing the ambience of your room.

The iM2 contains its own microphone preamp and analog-to-digital converter for low noise and great audio quality. Unlike mics that use the built-in iPhone preamp, the iM2 can handle up to 125dB sound levels to capture the loudest concerts and instruments without distortion.

Also contained in the iM2 is a stereo limiter to tame sudden loud sounds. The microphone level is adjustable with a knob on the side, making it quick to adjust without even looking at the unit. It's powered through the dock connector so no battery is required. A USB input is provided to charge your Apple iOS device for long recordings, either through a computer or TASCAMs PS-P515U power adapter.

The iM2 works great with just about any recording app, including the built-in video camera. Record stereo sound while you capture hi-definition video on your iPhone to capture every moment with clarity and realism.

iKlip Mini - securely mount your iPhone or iPod Touch to a mic stand

We carry lots of stand adapters for the iPad, including the GigEasy series and the iKlip. However, we are excited to finally have a solution for mounting your iPhone or iPod Touch!

The iKlip MINI is a universal microphone stand adapter for the iPhone and iPod touch to support your iOS device on stage, in the studio, at school or in the office. iKlip MINI securely supports your iPhone/iPod touch on any standard mic stand, pole or tripod (with diameters ranging from 11 - 20 mm /.43” - .79”) placed on the floor or tabletop.

Designed and manufactured in Italy, iKlip MINI firmly holds the device in place in both horizontal and vertical positions, and its multi-angle adjustable design allows optimal viewing and accessibility with all controls, buttons, connection ports and camera kept free from obstruction. It can also be easily rotated from portrait to landscape position by simply loosing or tightening a knob with no need for additional tools. It can be mounted on the vertical pole of a mic stand as well as on its horizontal boom.

An included detachable bracket supports the popular iRig guitar interface adapter together with iKilp MINI in both horizontal and vertical mounting positions so you can have immediate access to your iOS device multi-touch controls during your live performances with the AmpliTube range of apps or any other guitar effects app.
iKlip MINI is also the perfect companion to IK’s iRig Mic, the handheld microphone for iOS devices, that allows vocalists and speakers alike to conveniently hold and operate the device at a close distance on the same mic stand with IK’s VocaLive or any other vocal processing app.

Recording Software Tech Support...

Getting help with recording software when you need it can sometimes be difficult. My favourite solution is to buy a computer from Rain and then purchase their three year warranty and support contract.

You get a great computer that was designed specifically for music production, and you also get one point of contact for support. No more blame game! Instead of the software developer telling you the problem is with your audio interface, your audio interface manufacturer blaming your motherboard and not getting any response at all from your PC maker, you make one call and get the problem solved.
However, if you aren’t able to take advantage of Rain’s legendary support, you might need to rely on your software developer’s software options. How do they compare? Cakewalk recently sent us an interesting comparison that I thought I would share with you:
  • Cakewalk charges $0 for phone support in the U.S.
  • Avid charges $39.95 per incident for Pro Tools.
  • Apple charges $99 per incident or $399 annual subscription for Logic Pro.
  • No U.S. phone support available for Steinberg and Imageline users experiencing technical issues.

Roland R-26 Digital Recorder

Portable digital recorders have been a very popular item at Kelly's Music for a number of years now. So what makes the new Roland R-26 worth mentioning? This innovative recorder is portable yet loaded with first-class, professional features, and is backed by Roland's well known quality.
First off, there are two types of stereo microphones built into the R-26, plus a pair of XLR/TRS combo inputs for external mics, and an input for a stereo plug-in powered mic. Unlike most digital recorders, however, you can choose simultaneous combinations of the built-in mics (directional and omnidirectional), as well as the external inputs. This means you can use the R-26 to capture live performances with simultaneous line and ambient signal paths, record important speeches, lectures, and presentations, or take the R-26 into the inner city or deep forest for pristine field capture.

The Roland R-26 supports up to six channels (three stereo channels) of simultaneous recording so you can record from all three mic sources. It has a large LCD touchscreen display for intuitive navigation - no more scrolling through never ending menus with a jog wheel!.

The first thing I noticed with the R-26 was the extra large input-level knobs for fine adjustment. These make adjusting levels so much easier than tiny buttons, and will be perfect for recording outside in the cold and I want to leave my gloves on!

The R-26 also includes a built-in Hi-Speed USB interface for use as an audio interface or external storage and it has a Loop-Back function which means you can combine this with the built-in or external mics for the optimum live video streaming setup.

The included low latency ASIO and Core Audio drivers means flawless performance on both PC and Mac. The Ebox-44 is great for use with DJ software including Virtual DJ and Traktor, audio recording and production software like Logic, Cubase, & Live, or even everyday applications like iTunes.

Looking for an affordable digital recorder with lots of great features? The Tascam DR-40 features adjustable mics, four-track recording and extended battery life, giving you the flexibility you need to record tracks anywhere.
The DR-40 captures up to four tracks from built-in, high-quality condenser microphones, XLR mic or line inputs. A pair of great-sounding TASCAM microphone preamps welcome condenser microphones with phantom power, recording at up to 96kHz/24-bit resolution. It accommodates balanced XLR or 1/4" line inputs using locking Neutrik Combo jacks. The DR-40 accepts SD or SDHC cards up to 32GB, and a 2GB card is included.

Once recorded, play back your takes with EQ and the optional Level Align feature to avoid volume jumps. A stereo reverb effect is also built-in, as well as a speaker and chromatic tuner. Transfer recordings to computer using the USB 2.0 jack. The iPhone is fabulous and takes great HD quality video. However if there’s one area that lets it down, it’s the sound. The small internal microphone only records in mono with no control and as for the quality.... Well let’s just say it not exactly high-fidelity. Enter the new Fostex AR-4i. Offering excellent quality stereo audio recording, (via Dock connector and in-built AD/DA converter), with LED input level metering, gain control and headphone monitoring, the AR-4i has been designed to dramatically increase the quality of the sound of the videos you take with your iPhone 4.

Perfect for TV & Radio reporting, live video streaming to the web, video blogs / YouTube uploads plus ideal for family and domestic use.

Designed with professional use in mind, the AR-4I features a long operation time with 2 x AAA alkaline batteries for 8 to 10 hours, is supplied with a sturdy hand grip and has two threaded tripod mounts on the bottom and side for use with tripod, camera rigs, etc.

Session Strings Pro

Looking for some great sounding contemporary studio strings? The new Session Strings Pro from Native Instrument fills the gap left by huge orchestral libraries. It offers control of an 11-piece ensemble, recorded with the utmost precision in four different settings for maximum flexibility and realism. With its immaculate, intimate quality, unique musical workflow and a vivid, modern edge, SESSION STRINGS PRO is the premium choice for pop, RnB and more.

SESSION STRINGS PRO is far more than just a string library. Creating natural, expressive string tracks in the highest possible quality has never been more immediate, or more rewarding.
The sound of SESSION STRINGS PRO is close, detailed and intimate — an essential alternative to orchestral strings. Meticulously sampled and designed to sit well in the mix, each of the four ensembles consists of five instrument groups: full ensemble, four violins, three violas, two cellos and two basses. Play full ensembles, mapped across the keyboard, or individual instrument groups.

SESSION STRINGS PRO provides detailed control, right down to the amount of bow noise. Choose between classic or pop instrument placements. Experiment with close and wide microphone positions, or combine two ensembles for a full, widescreen sound. Based in Hamburg, Germany, e-instruments specialize in intensely detailed sampled instruments. Thomas Koritke and his team have succeeded in capturing the clarity, warmth, and character of these strings, using the very best equipment for outstanding sound quality. Every note is expertly played by virtuosos from Europe’s top orchestras, and the instruments used were hand-picked Italian antiques, including an exquisite cello from 1685.

Traktor Kontrol S2

Looking for an affordable but professional DJ system? While the Traktor Kontrol S4 is the industry leader, Native Instruments is now offering the TRAKTOR KONTROL S2 a two deck, all-in-one DJ controller system built to professional standards throughout, and the perfect introduction to the world of TRAKTOR.

TRAKTOR KONTROL S2 is Native Instrument's most professional 2-deck controller on the market. With pro credentials throughout, the 2.1 design couples the most essential items for any DJ — 2 decks and a mixer — with controls for multi-effect units and a third channel for samples. Set it up in an instant and dive right into the mix.

Rugged and highly portable, TRAKTOR KONTROL S2 is the only controller of its size to come with the full version of TRAKTOR PRO 2 included - the same software that pro DJs of all genres use. With TRAKTOR 2 Technology Inside, the S2 is tuned for maximum intuitiveness and creativity – resulting in an intensely fluid and fun mixing experience.

The included TRAKTOR PRO 2 is the culmination of 10 years of experience as the industry-leading DJ software platform. Its ease-of-use and astounding creative arsenal are built on the concept of TRAKTOR 2 Technology Inside.

Right out of the box you’ll instantly find yourself exploring the deeply inventive yet incredibly simple looping functions. At the push of the loop encoder, grab and set loop lengths that you can even change while its running. Layer up those loops in each of the eight Sample Deck slots. Bring the Sample Deck sounds into the mix via the ingeniously simple Samples knob.

Four ‘Hot Cue’ buttons per deck let you jump to any part of the song without dropping a beat – if the button is lit, a cue point is set – just hit the button and launch the track from that position. Rearrange, re-edit and remix tracks on the fly – blur the boundaries between a DJ set and a live performance.

This compact and portable unit was built by the same team and with the same components that brought you the TRAKTOR KONTROL S4 – the wildly-popular market-leader that revolutionized the all-in-one DJ system. Robust knobs and backlit buttons let you know what’s going on at all times. Two high-quality, pressure-sensitive jog wheels deliver total track control and easy pitch bending and tempo nudging.

If you want to record into your iPad, the AudioFace II or AudioLink II are great ways to connect to your iPad using the Apple Camera connection kit.

However, if you want something super small that can also record on your iPhone or iPod touch, checkout the new pocket-sized iXZ from Tascam. Plug in a microphone, guitar or bass to interact with the latest guitar amp, sampling, recording and DJ apps. The iXZ even supplies phantom power for condenser microphones. An input setting sets the gain and there’s a headphone output to monitor from your iOS device. To turn an iPhone into a portable practice, songwriting or live recording rig, it’s tough to beat the TASCAM iXZ.

The iXZ addresses the problem of providing reliable phantom power by accepting 2 AA batteries which should last for around 15 hours.

M-Audio FastTrack C400 and Fast Track C600

M-Audio has updated their popular Fast Track USB Audio Interface series with two new products – the Fast Track C400 and Fast Track C600. Both include Pro Tools SE so you can get started recording right away. You can also get the full power of Pro Tools by purchasing the Fast Track C400 with Pro Tools MP9 or the Fast Track C600 with Pro Tools MP9.

The next-generation designs combine an audio interface with tactile controls and built-in monitor management system, providing an integrated creative workflow.

The Fast Track C400 is a 4x6 Recording Interface with DSP and the Fast Track C600 is a 6x8 Recording Interface with DSP. Both units have 24-bit/96 kHz audio fidelity, top-panel controls, an assignable multi button, near-zero latency monitor mixer with built-in reverb, delay effects and a built-in monitor management system.

The assignable multi-button is a great idea as you can perform critical tasks without touching a mouse. For example, press the Multi button once to start recording, a second time to stop and return to where you started, and a third time to capture another take. Imagine the possibilities of programming any sequence of up to eight steps—for any software program that supports ASCII key commands—or use the convenient preset workflows with Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic, Live, and Reason.

Another feature that pushes these new Fast Track units into the “pro” category is the addition of a monitor management system. If you've been looking for an easy way to A/B your mixes on multiple sets of speakers, Fast Track C400 is the answer. There's no need to purchase additional hardware—the built-in monitor management system makes it easy to audition your mixes on up to two sets of studio monitors (or one set of monitors and a subwoofer).

Reason 6 is hugely popular, especially now that audio recording is integrated into the main program. If you could only own one tool for music production, Reason would be the one to get. However, if you don’t want to spend the money on the full version of Reason 6, Propellerheads has released a very capable, but less expensive version called Reason Essentials.

Reason Essentials packs in all the recording, editing, effects, instruments and mixing tools you need to sound great. With its generous sound bank and familiar creative flow, it’s the software that lets you focus on the music and finish that song. Reason Essentials, just like its bigger brother Reason, puts making music in focus. From concept to completion, it comes with all the essential tools for turning good ideas into great songs.

Keystation Mini 32 - portable keyboard for your laptop, iPad or desktop computer!

Looking for a really small keyboard that you can use with your laptop or iPad? Need something that won't take up much desk space? Check out the new Keystation 32 Mini from M-Audio!

The Keystation 32 Mini features 32 low-profile, velocity-sensitive mini-keys. Even with the super small size, M-Audio managed to fit 4 assignable controls. It has three buttons and a knob for real-time control of your DAW and virtual instruments.

Another surprising feature is the selectable velocity curves. This isn’t something usual found on a keyboard this price, and they’ve even included a velocity curve for drum programming. Using a keyboard for entering drum parts is a huge time saver compared to clicking with your mouse.

Making the Keystation 32 Mini super easy to use, it is USB bus-powered and class compliant so you can just plug it into your computer or iPad Camera Connection Kit and start playing.

The Keystation 32 Mini also includes Sibelius First notation software. Sibelius First usually costs $99.99, and the Keystation 32 Mini is only $79.99, making it an incredible value. An even more amazing value is the fact that you can upgrade to the full Sibelius 7 with the Sibelius 7 Competitive Crossgrade. In other words, for under $300 you can get Sibelius 7 and a keyboard!

As implied by the name, the Keystation 32 Mini does feature mini keys. If you are a keyboard player, or have fat fingers like me, the mini keys might not be your thing. If that is the case, check out the i2 GarageKey 37, which features full sized keys and is still very portable.

Number 1 Hits EZX

EZ Drummer users know that you can never have too many drum samples. The new Number 1 Hits EZX Expansion for EZ Drummer doesn’t disappoint. The mission was as simple as it was bold; create a fusion between organic, electronic, high-tech and vintage - a sound library that covers classic sounds but carry them into the new decade, a collection a drums that would sit right away in any contemporary pop, dance, house or hip hop mix.

Toontrack ended up with Number 1 Hits, which is not only an EZX expansion for EZdrummer, it's a bonafide hit-machine in itself. When sound designer Niklas Flyckt played the finished product for Toontrack, they were amazed at how organic, pumping and throbbing it sounded. "All you have to do is take any of the included grooves, burn it on a disk and you'll have a club hit", was Toontrack's Mattias Eklund's first comment.

Important Changes to Sibeilus 7 Academic Qualification Requirements affecting church musicians, private music teachers and more...

We are really excited about all of the great new features in Sibelius 7.  Unfortunately, there were some changes to the academic qualification requirements that make impact negatively on some of our customers.

Sibelius 7 Announced - Upgrades Available!

We are very excited that Avid has released Sibelius 7 today!  With lots of exciting new features, we definitely recommend considering upgrading.

Sibelius 7 Upgrade

Sibelius 7With a new "task oriented" user interface and a huge new sound library, there are lots of great reasons to upgrade to Sibelius 7.  I've listed a number of them later in this message, but if you are ready to order, you can use the links below.  Don't have Sibelius yet?  You can purchase Sibelius 7 or the Sibelius 7 Competitive Upgrade.
Sibelius 7 Tips:
  • Sibelius 7 does not include a printed manual, you can add one to your order here.
  • Sibelius 7 includes 90 days of free tech support. We recommend that you purchase an Annual Support Contract for $99 so that you can get the help you need from Avid after the initial 90 days.
  • Sibelius 7 requires a low latency ASIO or AU compatible audio interface (soundcard) for using the sound library. We recommend the AudioFace II USB, AudioLink II USB or most any of the audio interfaces in our buyer’s guide. Contact us for more information.
  • A USB MIDI keyboard makes entering notes into Sibelius much faster. The i2 GarageKey 37 is an ideal USB MIDI keyboard – just plug it in, and it works. For more options, visit our keyboard buyer’s guide.

Sibelius 7 New Features

Sibelius 7Task-oriented user interface
The brand-new Sibelius 7 user interface provides task-focused tabs that lead you through the process of creating a score from start to finish. Every feature has both an icon and a text description—with full contextual help available when you need it.

Professional sound library—only in Sibelius
You finesse every detail of your score—you want to hear every nuance during playback. Sibelius 7 includes more than 38 GB of professional content, including a specially recorded symphony orchestra, rock and pop instruments, and much more.

Native 64-bit support—only in Sibelius
Sibelius 7 is the world’s first 64-bit notation software, enabling you to unlock the full power of your 64-bit system—and work more quickly, with more virtual instruments and effects, than ever before.

Optimized for single monitor use—only in Sibelius
We understand that many of our customers favor laptops or other single-display systems. That’s why we designed the Sibelius 7 interface to allow you to focus on the music at all times—and easily hide information that you only need to see occasionally.

Switch to Sibelius from Finale
There’s never been a better time to switch from Finale® to Sibelius. Sibelius now features a step-time note input method that is very similar to Finale software’s Speedy Entry method—right down to using many of the same keystrokes. So if you know how to input notes in Finale, you know Sibelius too. And because today’s workflows include a wide variety of software applications, Sibelius 7 now includes full MusicXML export capability, so you can exchange files with hundreds of other applications, including Finale.

Text and typography enhancements
Take advantage of the latest OpenType fonts, including advanced features like ligatures, and employ them in text frames with full Desktop Publishing (DTP) level capabilities. There’s no need to export projects to a separate DTP application—now you can complete many of them within Sibelius 7.

Graphics import and export
Sibelius 7 makes it easy to import graphics in all major formats, then manipulate them to build complex layouts for publishing, creating teaching materials, instructional books, and more. You can export the full score as publication-quality graphics in PDF format, plus individual pages or smaller sections in EPS, PNG, and SVG formats.

Eliminating Latency/Delay with Notation Software & Software Synths

If you use a notation program such as Sibelius, Finale, Print Music or MusicTime, you’ve probably experienced the frustration of latency.

Latency is the delay between when you strike a key on a MIDI keyboard and when your computer creates the sound. This can make it impossible to properly record and line notes up and is very frustrating!

Even if you don’t use a notation program, but work with software synths, VSTi’s or virtual instruments such as those from EastWest, Steinberg, IK Multimedia, AAS or any others, you know how big a problem latency can be! If you want to use a software synth live, or even if you want to record and have your tracks line up, you can’t be worrying about latency.

Fortunately, there are two easy solutions, and we now have a video that explains what latency is, why it happens and how to fix it!

Check out the video for the solutions:

Need a silent foot switch? Check out the Airturn ATFS-2

Airturn's BT-105 bluetooth page turner for PC, Mac and iPad along with their USB wireless AT-104 page turner have been hugely popular both in Canada and the US.  They are designed so you can use them with any pedal, and we even have some bundles that include the BOSS FS-5U foot switch.

However, for live performance, a silent foot switch is the best choice.  Airturn's ATFS-2 is designed to be the quietest consumer foot switch on the market today.  It is a great companion to the BT-105. The ATFS-2 features a proprietary "mechanism free" design, where there are no moving parts aside from the molded hinge.

How did they do this?  The switch is actuated with a rare earth neodymium magnet and a rhodium reed switch, both of which are embedded within the body of the foot switch. Manufactured in Colorado, the ATFS-2 is injection molded with a unique blend of high strength plastics, which makes the foot switch virtually indestructible.

Check out our bundles that include the BT-105 and the ATFS-2 switch.
